I awoke this morning messaging a woman who has miraculously managed to place a smile on my face that I haven’t worn in years. It’s a nice feeling, a feeling that I am trying not to get carried away with, but I haven’t felt this connected to anyone in quite a long time, so it’s nice to enjoy the little moments we share. After all she lives in Switzerland and I live in Wales, it’s not exactly practical, but it feels effortless and easy, so why not find out what could happen, instead of wondering what if.

So after a chance meeting in Brussels, I have since flown out to her and enjoyed an amazing weekend in her home country. Next weekend it’s her turn to enjoy the delights of mine. I am really looking forward to spending more time with her, and I smile simply at the thought of her impending arrival on Friday night. But as our conversation petered out today and we both prepared to tackle our own individual days, I receive a call from my dad.

My grandmother’s health is getting worse rather than better and she is not well enough to accept visitors today as she is receiving treatment. Right now I am supposed to be at the hospital, instead I am at home reflecting on everything that’s happened these past few weeks. Smiling one second, looking forlorn the next, there’s such a conflict of emotion in my head right now, and instead of talking out loud to myself, which I would normally do, I find myself spilling my emotion onto the keys of my mac.

… Wait and see what happens I guess.

Saw my Gran tonight, she’s still her same old self always saying what’s on her mind.

I talked to her about my upcoming trip to Switzerland, how the only reason I am going out there is down to a chance drunken meeting with a woman in Brussels where we were only physically around each other for 12 hours. When I type this, it sounds crazy to do what I am doing, however after telling my Gran she replied, “If there’s one thing I want for you, it’s to live.” Which really made me smile, however she quickly followed with, “Make sure you wear a jacket.” And not the kind designed to keep you warm and dry.
